Game Plan Progress
Our department is 100% on board with developing a physical education blog. As a department we have decided to role out the blog at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. Time wise, we thought that our blog would get the most exposure if it is introduced to our new students in September. Rules and Expectations can be the first item introduced.
I have talked to many of my colleagues around the district who have their own department or classroom blog. They thought that we had a good list of topics to include in our blog and suggested that when we first roll it out that we only include information that was pertinent to the students at the beginning of the year. Once the year continued to progress we could gradually include topics or information when we deemed necessary.
It appears that with consistent communication within our department a little work on my end and support from our technical support services this blog could be a huge asset to our program next year. It will be nice having this resource available whenever our students have questions or concerns with grades, sports, fitness, and the many other areas we cover in physical education.

Mike,
ReplyDeleteIt is great to hear that your planning is coming along for your blog. I have to admit, I still wonder how effective a blog can be in physical education without developing a way to promote to the students a reason to visit the site. Previously I mentioned to you that it should be part of your student’s grade to visit and perhaps post to the blog; after reflecting on what you are creating a little bit more, it might be more free-flowing to just ensure that the blog is exciting and captivating so that your students will WANT to visit it.
The more videos and games that are included in the blog, the more effective I feel you can be. We all know that students like technology when they can interact with it and this could be a great portal to control such content. Have you considered incorporating such activities? It would be a more engaging way to assign a homework activity or something along those lines.

Mike,
ReplyDeleteAs I have stated earlier, your idea of starting a blog for your class is a great idea. It is particularly good to know that your department has agreed to do this collectively. Starting your blog at the beginning of the school year with rules and expectations sounds like a very good start. It's good to hear your plan is going well. I think it will turn out to be a great asset for you, your department, students, and parents.
